Somewhere in the nowhere

Somewhere in the nowhere is the name of the project, which the cologne artist Günter Limburg is actually following. So he takes up the confrontation with contemporary society, whose people he portraits and puts into relation towards each other.  In his particular figurative, expressive – surreal translation of interhuman relationship, settled in reduced and abstracted surroundings, the artist finds his own „somewhere in the nowhere“. As for instance his Protagonists show  visibility, such suggesting  a somewhere, their surrounding drifts in some kind of a nowhere.

The artist shows the progressively  accelerating activity in society, promoted by new media in our world of communication. He critizises the emerging loss of substancial contents in our contemporarian time and offers his landscapes as an alternative to those who are looking for a more retarded world, created by the desire of slowing down and looking for some peace within this hyper-stimulated globalized world.

In his forest paintings, we find abstract fragments of lost cultures between the plants and trees. „Anyway what strange ideas we may find in social, political or cultural way, which give the most insane imperia a chance to grow and to develop, nature will always be winning back again,“ Limburg says.

The artist who grew up in Eifels nature, studied fine art in Colognes Werkkunstschule with Professor Pravoslav Sovak. He was exposed in the midnineties with some of the most famous German artists as A.R. Penck, Markus Lüpertz and Jörg Immendorff.
